Promo: Chris Jericho’s WWE Debut – Raw (1999)
Context
One of the best wrestling debuts of all time. For several weeks the countdown to the millennium clock would tick down on Raw to build anticipation. The clock would eventually hit zero during one of The Rocks promos live on Raw, creating the perfect opportunity for someone to debut. Despite not knowing the music, the crowd pops when the word Jericho flashes up on the Titantron.
Chris Jericho had gone from leaving WCW as a midcarder to debuting on RAW and sharing the stage with one of the biggest stars in the business. Jericho came across as a star as he went back and forth with The Rock, showing the world he could hang with the best. One of the most well done and important debuts in pro wrestling history. Welcome to Raw is Jericho!
Did You Know?
Jericho said he came up with the countdown idea when he was stood queuing in the post office and they had a countdown to the millennium clock in the store.
Why You Should Watch
Interesting to watch WWF trying to debut Jericho as a star from the off during the height of the Monday Night Wars.
Where Can You See It?
