Promo: Austin 3:16 – King of the Ring (1996)
Context
Steve Austin beat Jake “The Snake” Roberts in the final to become King Of The Ring 1996. Roberts had returned to the WWF as a born again Christian which had inspired Austin to come up with one of the most iconic promos of all time. Austin delivered a cutting edge and somewhat controversial promo that would help further establish the WWF’s move towards the attitude era. Look out for Michael Hayes’s face when Steve says Austin 3:16.
This promo helped launch Stone Cold as the main superstar in the WWF and helped establish two of his iconic phrases. Austin 3:16 and “That’s the bottom line, cause Stone Cold said so”. Both came from this one promo.
Did You Know?
Triple H was originally scheduled to win King of The Ring but it was changed due to HHH’s involvement in the infamous curtain call incident.
Why You Should Watch
