Match: Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat – Clash of the Champions VI (1989)

Context

Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat wrestled in a legendary trilogy of matches in the NWA during 1989. Their bout at Clash of the Champions VI was the middle centrepiece and probably the most celebrated of the three big matches they had that year. Steamboat had won early at Chi-Town Rumble and the follow up at Clash VI was book as a two out of three falls match.

At nearly an hour, Flair and Steamboat put on an incredibly well paced match that excelled in technical in ring wrestling, psychology and intensity.

Did You Know?

Flair has often cited Ricky Steamboat as his best opponent and named this match as one of his favourites. Although all three matches in the 89 trilogy are worth watching.

Why You Should Watch

It’s around 1 hour due to it being a 2 out of 3 falls bout. However it’s a must see for the in ring technical work and drama throughout the match.

Where Can You See It?
